2010 Winter Olympics –Whistler
Didier Defago , born and still living in Morgins is the 2010 Downhill Olympic Champion .In an incredibly close contest ,Defago skied the race of his life to take gold, beating one of the favourites, Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, by just 0.07 seconds.There was nothing between them at the top of the course but as the number of turns increased and it became more technical, Defago took the better line , kept up his speed and brought home another gold medal for Switzerland. It didn’t take long for the fireworks to start in the village tonight and I wouldn’t plan an early start on the lifts tomorrow- all the pisteurs will be out celebrating along with the rest of the locals.This is something special for the small village of Morgins and I for one plan to be there for the welcome home party !
