Seasons changing in Morgins

It’s that time of year when you can ski in the morning and take a mountain walk,in shorts, amongst the spring flowers in the afternoon. Yesterday I had great day boarding at Pre Le Joux (just 15 minutes drive from Morgins) on empty and perfectly prepared pistes. The link to Avoriaz is now closed but you can still ski down to Linga and the Les Combes piste is great fun to ski. This afternoon I grabbed my Nordic poles and hiked up a fire road which only a month ago was the piste back to Morgins from Tovasiere. This is a lovely and easy walk where after 40 minutes of climbing you take a sharp right down a steep path through the trees where you eventually come out at a little woodcutter’s cottage. Five minutes from that was the welcome sight of Cantine de They. Here they were serving fondue on the sunny terrace where the smell of the cheese and the wood burner almost had me ordering a meal for one! Instead I settled for a hot chocolate to restore my batteries and set off down along the river back to the chalet and a warm bath. Spring in the ski season is one the best times of year to be in Morgins, everyone is relaxed and looking forward to the warm sunny days of summer I just hope the lake warms up quickly in time for my first swim of the season!
